The Awakening Conversation + My New Year Update!

The other night in conversation with Adrianna (my new music helping angel!), what she said to me really gave me pause for thought...

I’ve been making music and have been a part of the music biz for a long time and you almost get inside a bubble of comfort and expectations around the work that you’re doing. Over the years I’ve always challenged myself and chased perfection (often to the point of distraction and delay), but as life eventually shows us, these expectations can sometimes blur opportunity that may open up to you along the way.
Instead of always searching for the top of the mountain, she reminded and reinforced with me the importance of a more authentic journey – facing some fears and insecurities and becoming awakened in a different way to the music, fans and promotion without getting so caught up in process…that means change “Gulp”, but I’m ready for it!

As per Eckhart Tolle…”You find peace not by rearranging the circumstances of your life, but by realizing who you are at the deepest level.”

I went to bed last night almost restless, like I had opened a really great present and was too excited by the discovery to want to sleep. It’s funny how sometimes people come into your life at just the right time to turn your world upside down…which can be a good or bad happening at the time (good in this case) and then these rays of possibilities and change seem to present themselves. I like how it keeps life fresh and full of possibilities – it’s very inspiring too!

One thing that really stood out to me was her insistence on me showing my fans (new and old) more about me...

It took me some time to realize that though I felt like I was already revealing tons about me through my storytelling and non-fiction based songs…there was an even deeper, more process and “day to day” viewpoint that people were interested in seeing. At first I continued to resist and then it was like the fog cleared and suddenly I became aware of its importance. It’s the same reason people like reality shows…because it offers unique insights and more of a closeness/bonding between the person and the fans. Though I hope folks won't be expecting a kardashian style reality check from me...LOL:)

As per Eckhart Tolle…“ You do not become good by trying to be good, but by finding the goodness that is already within you, and allowing that goodness to emerge. But it can only emerge if something fundamental changes in your state of consciousness.”

I think the reason I held back was out of fear…maybe fear of letting people get too close, becoming too vunerable, perhaps looking less than “perfect”, etc, etc…our minds can create such unnecessarily cruel thoughts that really only become a disservice within our growth process.
So with the New Year, comes a bit of an expanded approach! Look forward to sharing with you some great new initiatives – like:
-           More intimate/acoustic live performances blended into my tour dates,
-           Show footage and conversation videos that will let you peek even more into who I am and what I do
-          Some fun future contests (look for the winner of my 2011  "So...what's your story?" contest to be announced early into Feb!!)
-          Inspiring & empowering workshops
-          Monthly Newsletters
-          Tangible music projects/products to add into the mix!

Stay tuned…and thanks for sticking with me through the continuing journey!

I hope you are learning and awakening as you move ahead as well…and if you were looking for someone to help open your eyes and motivate you, like Adriana did for me the other night, feel free to check in for regular doses of optimism and encouragement through use of both music and words!

Thanks Sherry!! It’s so true…by releasing some of the grip I usually apply to my life, I feel even more inspired and confident than ever! It’s that false sense of security that our comfort zone builds around us - so freeing to look beyond it!

Always appreciate your feedback…xo

Dear Lana, I think an authentic journey is something we are very privileged to be able to strive for.  Not only can an individual’s stories and insights create a connection, they also have the power to teach us about ourselves.  I think people watch reality t.v. for the same reasons they read gossip magazines and eat junk food: they’re cheap to produce and readily available.  Compare the feeling of consuming from one of the above categories with watching a film, reading a book or eating a meal that someone has created with love and poured parts of them-self into through their labour - therein lies true “connection”.  Few people are as beautiful, talented, positive and inspiring as you - success is when your authentic voice comes out through your music and your writing.  Love, Jan

Good on you Lana. I think we all have those little insecurities that keep a protected hand over our souls.  It takes a brave woman to let down those guards. You are so inspiring to so many, I’m glad to see that you have found someone to work with that is encouraging and supportive of your carreer and your development as a person. Can’t wait to see more of you in all your upcoming projects. xoxox
